Event Photography Wine Tasting in Edinburgh

A Glimpse into De Burgh’s Artisan Selections
Back in February, I was commissioned for some event photography in the characterful surroundings of Edinburgh’s Le Di-Vin. De Burgh Wine Merchants were hosting their 2025 Portfolio Trade Tasting. The gathering epitomized the marriage of tradition and innovation in the world of wine. Twenty-eight producers from across Europe, most notably France, Italy, and Spain, presented their best wines, offering the Scottish wine trade a taste of Europe’s diverse terroirs all under one roof.
De Burgh’s philosophy is rooted in sourcing wines that are true reflections of their origin and the passionate individuals behind them. Their portfolio boasts selections from small, often family-run estates, leaning towards authenticity over mass production. For instance, Domaine Sainte Croix in Corbières and Chateau La Verriere in Bordeaux exemplify their commitment to quality and character.
The tasting featured a range of wines that highlighted the depth and breadth of De Burgh’s offerings. From the mineral-driven Chablis of Domaine Jean Dauvissat to the robust Garnacha of Bodegas Aldonia in Rioja, each wine told a story of its land and maker. Notably, the Albarino from Terra de Asorei showcased the vibrant freshness characteristic of Galicia’s coastal vineyards.
Perfect setting for authentic reportage event photography
Le Di-Vin, with its tall ceilings, warm stone walls, and intimate mezzanine, provided an ideal backdrop. The space was thronging with people all day but encouraged the kind of unhurried conversations—between sommeliers, restaurateurs, and independent buyers—that remind us wine is as much about connection as it is about craftsmanship.
The lively interplay between producers and guests also made it a joy to photograph. The room buzzed with intense discussion, animated tastings, and a constant hubbub of laughter and chatter.
My reportage approach to capturing the event allowed me to capture the atmosphere of the occasion as well as produce a vibrant set of fun individual portraits of each producer to round off the photographic coverage. The resulting gallery offers De Burgh’s marketing team a rich visual resource to draw on as well as offering the producers themselves a rich vein of visual content for their own social channels.
Wines with both provenance and personality
This event not only highlighted De Burgh‘s dedication to curating a distinctive and high-quality wine selection but also reinforced their role as a bridge between passionate producers and discerning consumers. In an age where authenticity is paramount, De Burgh continues to champion wines that resonate with both provenance and personality.
The fact that so many producers travelled to Scotland for the event is a testament to De Burgh’s standing in the Scottish trade. They are a small, independent wine merchant with the reach, integrity and relationships to punch well above their weight in the trade.
