Lorraine Kelly Opens The John Cunningham Creative Centre
Last Friday, I had the pleasure of photographing Lorraine Kelly. She was attending the official opening of The John Cunningham Creative Centre at Langloch Farm in Lanark. It’s a vibrant new community hub created by Clydesdale Community Initiative (CCI) in honour of John Cunningham, the late founder of Border Biscuits.
It was an emotional day for many there. The event celebrated John’s remarkable legacy and his commitment to community and creativity. The beautifully repurposed building is now home to workshops in everything from arts and crafts to music, upcycling and practical skills. All designed to bring people together through learning and creativity.
Lorraine Kelly – the perfect guest of honour
The guest of honour for the day was Lorraine Kelly. She officially unveiled the plaque dedicating the new centre. It’s hard to think of anyone better suited to the role. She was warm, grounded, and genuinely interested in all the people she meets.
Lorraine is every bit as engaging off-camera as she is on screen. She took time with everyone she met — from Border Biscuit staff to the CCI team and community members taking part in activities. She made them all feel so relaxed and at ease. Lorraine chatted, laughed, posed for photos, and showed a sincere curiosity in everything going on around her.
Nothing was too much trouble, and she was just as accommodating to me as the photographer covering the event. We worked together effortlessly, and I came away with a great collection of natural, expressive images that capture her easy rapport and warmth.
A collaborative effort
This shoot was commissioned by Clarion Communications for Border Biscuits, and I’d like to thank Lynne Hughes and Laura Balloch from Clarion for their brilliant organisation on the day. Jamie Slattery, Lorraine’s agent, was also a great help to make everything run so smoothly.
The resulting photographs showcase both the energy of the new centre and the genuine connection Lorraine brought to the event. It’s a reminder to me of why she remains one of Britain’s most loved broadcasters.
It was a privilege to document such a positive day celebrating community, creativity, and the enduring impact of generosity and vision.
