Sunshine, Shadows and Charlie’s Angels – Corporate Portraits in bright sunshine

Corporate Portraits in bright sunshine

Corporate Portraits in bright sunshine – with out-takes

Happy Friday everyone – it’s the end of another long hot sunny week and those pub gardens are calling out to us.

“Blue skies, sunshine, it’s the perfect weather for pictures”. That’s what many people assume because it reminds us of being on holiday but blinding sunshine is rarely the photographer’s friend.

In reality, strong midday sun can be a challenge. It makes people squint, limits angles, casts harsh sharp shadows under eyes and noses, and tends to flatten out expressions. Using artificial light to balance or overpower the sun can help, but doing so outdoors—especially on a busy shoot with a lot going on—is a technically demanding juggling act.

Timing, angles and wind direction all have to align for things to work out. A bit of luck with a passing cloud can help the situation but it wasn’t to be on this occassion.

Instead, I was able to rely on these guy’s energy enthusiasm and general high spirits to make the corporate portraits in bright sunshine work.

Colour coordination and Charlie’s Angels

All that said, it was fantastic to be out in the bright May sunshine at Celtic Renewables on Wednesday.

The commission was to photograph two new additions to the executive team, as well as some update portraits of other staff members. It’s always a pleasure to work with this group. Their energy, ideas and team dynamic made the challenges of the conditions feel more like part of the fun and the old Charlie’s Angels routine always ramps up the vibes.

We made the most of the bright surroundings, with loads of creative input from the team. Bettina and Kerry turned up looking completely on-brand – colour-coordinated tops and Kerry’s matching nail varnish (a lovely detail I didn’t spot until the edit!). Their enthusiasm, mischief, and willingness to roll up their sleeves made for a genuinely enjoyable session.

Indoor corporate portraits

As always, I balanced the corporate portraits in bright sunshine with more controlled indoor portraits and headshots, taking advantage of a quieter space where I could fine-tune the lighting and create some classic looks for the team.

A fun day at the office. Great energy, and a big dose of vitamin D to top it all off. What more could you ask for?
