Best Luxury Home in Scotland 2025 Herald Property Awards

Thomas Robinson Architects – Best Luxury Home, Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2025

I was commissioned to provide architectural photography for a grand new luxury home in East Renfrewshire, designed by Thomas Robinson Architects. I’m delighted that this project has just been awarded Best Luxury Home in Scotland at the 2025 Herald Property Awards, making it a standout example of award-winning Scottish residential architecture.
It’s fantastic to see such a thoughtful and finely crafted design receive national recognition.

A Grand Country Home on a Hilltop Setting

Set on an elevated rural site, the house sits confidently in the landscape. It embraces a recognisable Scottish vernacular style, while feeling elegant and contemporary.

What impressed me most was how intelligently the architects used the natural contours of the land, particularly in relation to the lochan. The house takes full advantage of its setting, capturing wide views across Glasgow to the north and flooding the interiors with natural light. From across the water to the south, it takes on an almost ethereal quality—especially at dusk when the reflections soften and the architecture seems to float.

Classical Symmetry with Scottish Character

The design achieves a beautiful balance, placing a symmetrical frontage and central entrance at its heart, with a grand hallway leading into generous public spaces on either side.

Upstairs, the two wings contain the bedrooms, while the master suite sits perfectly in the centre.
The proportions follow traditions of Scottish classical architecture, with subtle castle-style references and impeccable fine detailing throughout.

The result is a home that feels timeless, confident and beautifully crafted.

Photographing the Best Luxury Home in Scotland

This was a highly satisfying and thought-provoking project to photograph.
Spending time with the building allowed me to appreciate how sensitively it engages with light, landscape and water.

I visited at different times of day. Not just to capture the light, but to observe how the architecture revealed different qualities as the sun moved.
Certain angles came alive in the early morning, when the light was clear and fresh picking out textures and symmetry. Other forms became more dominant in the evening, when the house reflected across the lochan.

It was a real pleasure to slow down and study the building, exploring the best viewpoints as various aspects of the design came to life.

This wasn’t just documentation — it was an immersive process of reading the architecture through light, form and setting.

Architectural Photography

The homeowners have said the house is everything they hoped for, and standing there with my tripod, it was easy to see why.

This is one of those projects where architecture, setting and craftsmanship come together seamlessly.
Huge congratulations to Thomas Robinson Architects on a well-deserved award.

It was a privilege to be commissioned for this Best Luxury Home architectural photography. I’m proud that the images help showcase such an exceptional piece of contemporary Scottish residential architecture.
